Paint.net Tutorial: How to Mirror Text & Images

Previously, I did a written tutorial on how to mirror text using Photoscape. I also did a video tutorial on it. However, I find myself using Paint.net a lot more recently. I really like Paint.net and use it a lot because it's great for doing quick and easy image editing task. I decided to do a tutorial on mirroring text and images using Paint.net for anyone who's interested in knowing how it's done.

There are three main steps to mirror text and images using Paint.net. 1. Type your text and/or choose your image. 2. Duplicate the layer & vertical flip it. 3. Gradient the text/image using transparency.

I'm going  to tell you each step and use a few screen shots, but I also did a video tutorial. If you want to skip this written tutorial, you can find the video tutorial at the end of this blog post.

Here's the text tutorial: How to mirror text and images using Paint.net:
Select New and key in the width and height you want your mirrored image to be.

Add a new layer. Click on the Text icon and choose your preferred font and text size. Type in your text and if you're including an image, then open/select, copy and paste/position in your image.

Click on the duplicate layer icon in the Layers dialog box to duplicate the layer. Click on Layers in the menu and select Flip vertical to flip the duplicate layer.

On your keyboard, hold down the Ctrl key and click the up arrow button to gradually move the flipped layer closer to the upright one.

When you've positioned the flipped layer in the desired position, click Edit in the menu and click Deselect.

Merge all layers together by clicking the Merge layer down icon in the Layers dialog box. Click on Gradient icon in the Tools dialog box. In the Colors dialog box, change the primary color to transparent and the secondary color to white. On the gradient tool options choose Color and Normal blending.

Somewhere on the upright text/image, Click and hold down the mouse and drag it down into the flipped text/image. The top will be transparent and the bottom will be blended white.

Adjust as needed, by clicking, holding down and dragging the tiny circles. There's your mirrored text/image. Crop it and/or adjust as needed.

Video Tutorial: A Faster Way to Create Reflective Text Using Photoscape

This is a video tutorial how to make text reflection or mirror text

I made this second video of how to make reflective text with Photoscape because it has fewer steps and can be done quicker. The previous video I did is still good. It gives you more practice and helps you learn the software better sometimes if you do things the hard way. 

You can make great looking blog banners or blog headers using this text effect. I used reflective text to make a new header for this blog. You too can create one. Try using different fonts, art, and pictures. Watch this video tutorial, then create yourself some cool looking headers and banners.

Photoscape: A Faster Way To Create Mirrored Text

This is a text effect tutorial how to create mirrored text or reflective text. 

I made a blog post tutorial yesterday explaining how to make reflective text or mirrored text using Photoscape. I sorta jumped the gun because I figured out that there is a faster and more simpler way to create mirrored text with Photoscape.

I didn't realize it until after I had made the blog post. However, that's fine with me because I don't mind making another blog post showing how fun it is to use Photoscape.

So, here we go again with screen shots teaching you how easy it is to create mirrored text. Let's get started! 

Open Photoscape and Click "Editor". 

Click "Menu". Then select "New Photo". Type the width and height of your text background canvas and select the color. Click "OK". 

Click the "Object" tab. Click the "Text icon". Choose a font. This time I'm choosing Screengem. Type your text. Give your text a shadow effect or outline if you want to. Click "OK". Align your text inside of your canvas. Try to line up the bottom of the text as close to the bottom of the background canvas as you can. 

I'm going to add clip art to my text again this time. So, I Click the "Photo icon" (still under the Object tab) & select travel from the drop down list. Click on a the camera clip art. Then Click "OK". 

Then adjust the size of the clip art and position it close to the bottom edge of the background canvas as I did with the text. Click on the "Photo + Objects" button. 

Then Click the "Home" tab and Click "Filter" and select "Reflection" from the drop down list. You should see that the text and the clip art has a reflection and the options box will appear. Adjust the size, level, and the perspective and the background color of the reflection as you wish. Then Click "OK".

To make your creation neater, click the "Crop" tab. Then press your left mouse button and drag it to draw a box around your text where you want it cropped. Then Click "Crop". Click "Save" to save your masterpiece. Nice work.

How To Make Text Reflection Or Mirror Text Using Photoscape

This is a text effect tutorial for Photoscape. 

Making text reflection for text effects is easy using the free photo editing software, Photoscape. You can create great mirror images and mirror text for use on blog headers, website banners, forum posts, etc. So let's get started. Shall we? 

Open up Photoscape & Click Editor. Click Menu and choose "New Photo". This is going to be the canvas for our text. 

Click menu & new photo to begin making reflective text in Photoscape.

Type in the size you want your canvas to be. In my example I'm choosing 500 as the width and 100 as the height. You can change the background color, but I'm sticking with white. Click "OK". 

  

Click the "Object" tab. Click the "Text icon". Choose a nice font. I'm chosing a large, thick font (Strenuous). 

Type your text. Note: I'm going to include clip art in my reflective text so, I'm typing some spaces to have room for it. Give your text a shadow effect. Click "OK".

Choose a bold or large sized text for great looking reflective text. 

Adjust your text to fit inside your canvas. If you're adding a clip art like me, Click the "Photo icon" (still under the Object tab) & click on heart. Click on a heart image. Click "OK". Adjust the size of the heart and position it where you want it to appear on your canvas. 

Click the "Crop tab" and crop your canvas so that the bottom of the text is close to the edge. Click "Save cropped area". Name your reflective text and choose a file type JPG. Choose file quality you want and click "OK". I keep the quality of mine at 95%.

It's a good idea to crop text so bottom is close to edge of the bottom.

Look to the left and find the file you just saved. I saved mine to the desktop so I click desktop. Click on your file when you've found it. A dialog box will pop up saying edited photo was not saved. However you saved a cropped copy of it, so click "NO", not to save file. Your cropped text should now be showing in the viewer.

 

On the "Home tab".  Click on "Filter". Click on "Reflection" in the list. You should see that your text has a reflection or mirror effect showing in the viewer. Adjust the options as you wish. Click "OK".

You can adjust the size, level, perspective, and background color of reflective text.

Click Save to save your reflective text. That's it! You've just made reflective text to use as a banner, blog header, or other uses.
