How To Cartoonize Yourself Using Photoscape Free Photo Editing Software

This is a tutorial how to cartoonize photos using Photoscape

If you want to cartoonize yourself using photo editing software, you can do it manually by adjusting the colors, the threshold, and different filters. You can do this in Photoscape as well. However, Photoscape has an easy way to cartoonize photographs. It has a preset filter that will change photos into cartoon images instantly.

Cartoonizing yourself with Photoscape's preset filter is very easy. Once you have selected the photo you want to cartoonize, there's usually a three button process to complete the process using the preset option.

Sometimes the preset cartoonizer may not give the final results you want, so you may need to make some adjustments before using preset cartoon filter. This is because not all photographs are perfect. For example some photos might have too much light in the background. Some pictures might have been taken in very little lighting, etc.

I have several examples to show you how to cartoonize your pictures. A big thank you goes to PublicDomainPictures.net for the use of the free public domain photographs I am using in this tutorial.

Alright. So, lets cartoonize some photos.

To Cartoonize Photo Without Pre-Adjustments:

Select the photo you want to cartoonize from the photo list. Your photo will appear inside the canvas area. On the "Home" tab. Click the "Filter" button. Click "Picturialization". Click "Cartoon".

The photo will change into a cartoon and the cartoon dialog box will appear. Adjust the Pen Thickness and the Threshold to get the look you want. Click "OK".

Click "Save" to save your cartoonized photo. Here are the before and after pictures of cartoonizing.

To Cartoonize A Photo That Has Dim Lighting:

Open Photoscape and Click "Editor". Select the photo you want to cartoonize from the photo list. Your photo will appear inside the canvas area. This photograph is a little dim, so I want to deepen the colors in the photo before I cartoonize it.

On the "Home" tab Click the "Bright, Color" button.  Click "Deepen". Click "Middle (Gray Tone)". This change will be applied to your photograph. Note: If you chose the wrong thing you can click the "Undo" or the "Redo" button. You can click the "Undo All" button to start over again.

On the "Home" tab. Click the "Filter" button. Click "Picturialization". Click "Cartoon".

The photo will change into a cartoon and the cartoon
dialog box will appear. Adjust the Pen Thickness and the Threshold to get the look you want. Click "OK".

Click "Save" to save your cartoonized photo. Here are the before and after effects of cartoonizing this photo.

To Cartoonize A Photo That Has A Shadow:

Open Photoscape and Click "Editor". Select the photo you want to cartoonize from the photo list. The photo will be inside the canvas area. This picture has a shadow in it, so I want to brighten the photo before I cartoonize it.

On the "Home" tab Click the "Bright, Color" button. Click "Brighten". Click "Middle (Gray Tone)". This change will be applied to your photograph.  Again, you can click the "Undo" button, the "Redo Button", or you can click the "Undo All" button to start all over again.

On the "Home" tab. Click the "Filter" button. Click "Picturialization". Click "Cartoon".

As stated before, the photo will change into a cartoon and the cartoon dialog box will appear. Then adjust the Pen Thickness and the Threshold to get the look you want. Click "OK".

Click "Save" to save your cartoonized photo. Here are the before and after pictures for this cartoonized photograph.

Yes, Photoscape is a great fun to play with image. I am impressed to see that the author is offering such image editing software without any subscription fees. However, I believe that, Adobe Photoshop is still one of the best photo retouching software for professional image editing like image masking, image manipulation, background removal etc.

MomentCam is one of the best photo editing apps to turn photos into cartoons, and so it easily takes a spot in our list. It offers a myriad of amazing filters and different stickers for you to make any image look like it’s straight out of a cartoon or a sketchbook.

Thank you for your post. No doubt photo editing is quite easy with much more user-friendly software. In my sense, PicMonkey is one of the best online photo editing apps for everyone. PickMonkey has multi features such as one-click background removal, smart resize, brand kit and thousands of graphics and templates.
